Viking shield with carved massive Wolf head and Norse Drake ornamen New Handmade

  • This stunning handmade shield displays a wolf head carved in the wood, attached to the center of the plywood base, with ornamental Norse drake patterns carved along the rim and decorative steel bolts.
  • The Nordic warriors wearing the skins of wolves were called Ulfheðnar for "wolf coat" another term associated with berserkers. They were known to be particularly fearless and barbaric. After, the wolf Fenrir was a symbol of world chaos in Norse mythology
  • The shield's base is constructed from birch plywood that is 15 mm thick and has been stained and varnished using linen seed oil and a transparent acrylic coating. A 50 mm thick piece of wild cherry or beech wood was used to carve the Wolf head composition, which was then affixed to the base.
  • Size - 27 inches in diameter (70 cm)

Materials

Unless indicated differently in each product description, our shields are made out of 15mm thick birch plywood and consolidated by a steel hand-hammered umbo and iron bolts.

Because these are handmade products made with real wood blanks the sizes, textures and overall appearance may vary from the product photos and description. Some blanks might be smaller than anticipated, or larger sizes too thick to transport at a low cost. 

Care Instructions

We recommend applying three or four times per year some beeswax polish to protect the wood surface from moisture and sunlight. Apply the oil onto a lint-free cloth and rub into the wooden surface following the direction of the grain. Leave for 3-4 minutes and buff over with a clean cloth.
